Excel Fostering, based in Lytham St Anne’s have expanded their operations into Burnley in a bid to increase the numbers of foster carers registered with the independent fostering agency as there is a shortage of over 8,000 foster carers across England.
The Department of Education reported that there’s over 75,000 in care with 13,220 of these children residing in the North West of England.
The latest figures show that there are 1,964 looked after children and young people in the Lancashire local authority, which is 23% increase from 2014.
Councillor Anne Kelly, the Mayor of Burnley, joined staff and foster carers on 26th November at the official opening of the Burnley office and she said:
“With so many children in care and the number increasing day by day, it’s important that we do everything we can to place these children in safe and loving homes. Sometime that means adoption is the right arrangement for the child however, sometimes the fostering arrangement is absolutely right for the child or young person.
We are thankful for organisations like Excel for all the hard work that they do for children and young people behind the scenes that usually goes unnoticed. We need more people like this to carry on doing what they do every day.”
Catherine Lockett, regional director for Capstone (North) said:
“We’re delighted to open a new office in Burnley. We have been making brighter tomorrows for children and young people for the last 10 years and have an experienced, skilled staff team who support our foster carers in their local communities.”
