For Movember, each week we are focussing on different topics around men's health. We are raising awareness around testicular cancer this week, which is the number one cancer amongst young men. Having an awareness and knowing how to check for change is key in positive outcomes.
Throughout Movember. our Mo Bros and Mo Sisters are continuing to walk, run, grow, squat and host their mo-ment's throughout November to raise funds and awareness around men's health.
Support us over on our Movember team page here.
Men between the ages of 15 and 49 are mostly affected by testicular cancer. According to Cancer research UK, when testicular cancer has been diagnosed and then treated early on, survival rates are very high.
You can find support for men affected by testicular cancer over on Movember's "nuts and bolts" website here.
Cancer is a disease where a person's body’s cells grow out of control. Some facts about testicular cancer are:
Knowing your own body is important in being able to notice any changes. Here's a really helpful video from Movember to help men know how to regularly check themselves and know when to seek help.
The thought of being checked by a doctor might feel awkward, but don't delay making an appointment. Remember that doctors check people over ALL the time so it won’t feel even slightly embarrassing for them.
Movember's "Nuts and Bolts" support pages have everything you need to know about testicular cancer and more. They also have a community forum there where you can ask questions and they can even set you up with a "guide" which is someone who has experienced testicular cancer themselves.
As well as the incredible support for men via their nuts and bolts website and awareness raised through their annual campaign, Movember also funds global research into testicular cancer. They aim to halve the number of men dying from testicular cancer, and halve the number of men facing serious ongoing side effects from treatment by 2030. You can find the UK projects funded by Movember here.
