A foster child, foster carer and their social worker headed to Turf Moor recently to receive a personalised football shirt from Burnley Football Club. The presentation marks the start of a partnership seeing the football club help to reach more potential foster carers to support children in care in the local community and giving the opportunity for foster carers and foster children with a passion for football to attend some games this season.
Registered Manager, Emma Miller said:
“We are really excited to be working with Burnley Football Club. We have an office in Burnley meaning we have some really staunch fans amongst our children and foster carers (and staff of course!). I hope our partnership will inspire people to come forward to help children in care in Burnley by becoming foster carers.”
The call for more foster carers comes as it has been reported that children in care in England could hit almost 100,000 by 2025. Research commissioned by county councils said that this would represent a 36% rise over a decade. Currently, Excel Fostering has 74 fostering families in Lancashire with 61 children being cared for. There are over 2,000 children currently in care across Lancashire who could benefit from a secure and caring home.
Fostering Support Worker, Alison Fisher, who attended the football shirt presentation said:
“We had such a fantastic morning at the club. We value all of our foster carers so much and it has been wonderful to share this experience with a foster carer and foster child. We know the pandemic has made a lot of people re-evaluate their lives and careers, so if anyone out there has considered becoming a foster carer and would like to find out more, we’d love to hear from them. We would like to help as many children in care as possible to be able to find a safe and loving home.”
