Your Placement

Once you've been approved to become a foster carer, what happens next?

Your placement team will get find out more about you so they can ensure you receive a placement that is right for you and your family.

The process for a placing a child with you

• A local authority will contact the placement team to talk about a child's needs and determine whether we have any suitable carers available.
• All the information about the child will then be passed to a social worker who will identify ascertain whether there is a suitable foster family  for the child/ren
• A social worker then contacts foster carers to discuss the placement in detail. The foster carer can then agree or decline to take on the placement – carers are never obligated to take on a child or young person if they feel they wouldn’t be a good match.
• If the foster carer agrees to taking the placement, their Form F document is sent to the local authority to prove their suitability for the placement.
• If the local authority agrees that the foster carer is a suitable match for the child or young person, a Excel representative and the local authority will liaise to plan the next step.

Continued Support

Now you're a fully approved foster carer with a placement, the support doesn't stop there.

At Excel we know that the most important factor to successful placements is the foster support offered to our carers. Whether you’re taking on your first, second or tenth placement, you will always be supported by a Excel Fostering supervising social worker. You can call our support team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year.
